Savings Goal Calculator: Find Out How Long You'll Need to Save

Calculate your savings timeline in seconds. Enter your goal amount, current balance, and regular contribution, and see exactly how long it’ll take to reach your target, home deposit, holiday, or otherwise.

What Our Saving Goal Calculator Actually Shows You

This savings calculator takes your target amount, your current balance, and your regular contribution. It works out roughly how many months or years it’ll take to reach your goal. If you’re earning interest on your savings, that gets factored in too, since even a modest interest rate can shave meaningful time off a long-term goal.

It’s built for exactly the kind of goal Australians save toward most: a home deposit, a wedding, an overseas trip, or a bigger emergency fund. Whether that deposit is in Melbourne’s west or anywhere else in Victoria, the maths works the same way. The number you get back is an estimate based on the figures you enter, not a guarantee. Real life tends to involve the occasional unplanned expense, or a pay rise that speeds things up.

Things You Should Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about a saving goal calculator.

It takes your target amount, current savings, and regular contribution. It calculates roughly how many savings periods it’ll take to reach your goal, factoring in interest if you include a rate.

Yes, if you enter an interest rate, it’s factored into the estimate. Leaving it blank or at zero will give you a simple contribution-based timeline instead.

Yes, it works for any dollar-figure goal, including a home deposit. Just enter your target deposit amount as the goal.

Simply re-run the saving calculator with your updated numbers, and your estimated timeline will adjust accordingly. It’s designed to be used more than once as your situation changes.

No, it provides a general estimate based on the numbers you enter, not personalised financial advice. For guidance specific to your situation, it’s worth speaking with a Credit Hub adviser directly.

This usually comes down to the contribution amount entered. Increasing your regular contribution, even slightly, often shortens the timeline more than people expect, so it’s worth testing a few different figures.
